What is happening with Rachel Nichols/Ashley Seaver on Criminal Minds?

I know that both AJ Cook (JJ) and Paget Brewster (Prentiss) are coming back for the next season, and Rachel Nichols will no longer be on the show. Does anyone know what happened with that? Also, do you know how they are planning to remove Agent Seaver from the show?

Rachel Nichols was signed last year for 15 episodes with an option to return for a second season. CBS decided not to pick up Rachel’s option. With AJ and Paget coming back, there was no room in the budget or in the script to devote to an 8th castmember. There’s no word yet on whether or not Rachel Nichols will be back to wrap up her character’s storyline, but the common theory is that she won’t. Season 6 ended with the possibility of one or more team members being offered a transfer, so most likely it will be mentioned in passing that she decided to transfer to a different department.
